Oriental Rugs - A Touch of History, Style and Culture in Your Living Room

In searching for Oriental area rugs, you will probably find that different people are actually looking for different styles of rug or carpet. The term Oriental conjures up a different image to different people, and that may depend on where they come from themselves. I come from England, so my interpretation of Oriental is more the European version.
To me oriental is coming from the Orient, the Far East and land of the rising sun. On seeing the term I think of China, Hong Kong, Japan and other countries with rich histories and cultures from that part of the world. To many, though, the Orient includes the Middle East, Central and Southern Asia, so when it comes to rugs, it could even include Persia, and thus Persian area rugs.
When it comes to the rugs themselves, though, it does not matter how their origin and influence is described. It is the looks, quality and style that really matters, and whether they fit your needs, and blend or contrast well with the rest of your home decor, is what really matters.
All the area rugs selected to be shown here are from the Himalayas, appropriately called the Himalayan Beauty range. Made from Himalayan sheep wool and silk, the variety of bold and beautiful colors is what some of us would expect to see in an oriental rug or carpet. Still hand made, these rugs are a proud reflection of an ancient culture, one of many in the Orient, whatever your interpretation of oriental may be.
