Seagrasses (or sea-grasses in UK English) are another natural vegetable fiber, like Jute and Sisal, that have been traditionally used for making rugs and mats with a tough and hard wearing, somewhat course, texture.

There are many seagrass species around the world, growing in shallow seas where they can receive enough sunlight to survive. Seagrasses were once thought to be of little significance to the marine environment, but their crucial role has recently been discovered and recognised by scientists. The area rugs pictured on this page are all 100% natural seagrass, with a 2" Wide cotton Chenille binding to give a nice edging that helps to prevent fraying as well as looking attractive.
