Zebra Rugs - Artificial Alternatives to Animal Skin
It is likely that wherever you may live in the world, you will have heard of a zebra, even though pronunciation may vary. Zebra rugs are popular worldwide too.
The zebra is a type of horse native to central and south Africa, but it is so well known internationally because of its striking black and white striped patterns.
Unfortunately a number of the better known wild animals of Africa and Asia were exploited for their skins, and the zebra, leopard and tiger have all been abused in that way. Fortunately, international pressures have had some success in reducing the traffic of real animal skins, including those of zebras.

However, there is no denying that the stunning patterns of the zebra have outstanding appeal to modern home owners, even if they disapprove of the use of real animal products for home decor. Zebra area rugs are often in demand still.
Fortunately, zebra type patterns, and deviations thereof, can be recreated artificially to good effect. It is therefore possible to obtain a zebra pattern rug without any animal being harmed in any way at all.
The top picture is of a Zulu Milliken man made zebra area rug, which is made from 100% nylon in the USA. The middle picture is a different type of floor covering, and not exactly a true black and white zebra, as this range has various color options. However, they are called baby zebras because of their zebra like patterns. In this case, though, the rugs are made from animal skin, but certainly not zebra.
These are natural cowhide rugs, which could also be used as wall hangings, throws and drapes.
The final rug pictured is back to the more traditional black and white zebra, this time a Couristan Everest rug made in Belgium from polypropylene.
